Deep Rock Galactic Wiki

The Glyphid Praetorian is two tons of armor, teeth, and claws. It is extremely aggressive and highly territorial. It vomits up powerful sprays of corrosive poison and is mostly resistant to bullet fire from the front - both very good reasons to flank Praetorians at all times. Furthermore, R&D advises standing well back once one of these beasties go down - their poison sacks tend to rupture, covering the surrounding area in a deadly cloud of poisonous vapor.
— Miner's Manual Description

The Stone Guardian is a hostile creature found on Hoxxes IV. It is found in every region of the planet, though only on Powerstone Harvest missions. They are similar in body shape to Glyphid Praetorians, but are not part of the Glyphid species.

The Stone Guardian is an immensely durable creature encountered during Powerstone Harvest missions. These slumbering behemoths pose a significant threat to dwarves due to their thick armor, explosive resistance, and powerful attacks.

In their dormant state, Stone Guardians resemble large, inert rock formations, seamlessly blending into the cave walls. Their rocky exterior makes them difficult to detect with standard scanners. Upon exposure of a Powerstone in their vicinity, Stone Guardians begin to move. Their rocky exterior crumbles, revealing a monstrous creature composed of obsidian-like plates and sharp legs built for stabbing.

Combat[]

Health and Armor[]

Stone Guardians occupy a tanky role, using their big health pools and Heavy Armor to soak up lots of damage while fighting the Dwarves.
Unlike the Light Armor found on Grunts, Heavy Armor will fully block all damage to the Stone Guardian until its own health is depleted. The Heavy Armor on the Stone Guardian's body is broken up into segments, and will expose the vulnerable flesh underneath which will receive the full damage of a weapon.
Going for the belly can give you more damage only if your weapon has a weakpoint damage bonus.

Attacks[]

Their primary attack is an Rock Barrage. The Stone Guardian anchors it's self to the ground and launches large rocks with its powerful pincers. These rocks do both direct and AoE damage to nearby dwarves. This barrage has a 15m range and a 2s cooldown.

The Stone Guardian will ignore the Gunner's Shield Generator, and slowly move through its walls until it is close enough to use the stab attack.

If allowed to get close, Stone Guardians will use their sharp legs to stab, which deals a 50% slow for 5 seconds. This attack is often coupled with the rock barrage attack, launching both dwarves and rocks across the cave.

Variants[]

Elite Variant[]

The Elite Stone Guardian is the elite version of the regular Stone Guardian. Like all Elite enemies, the Elite Stone Guardian looks almost identical to its regular counterparts; being only distinguished by its blueish tint and aura of distinct vertical red lines with the words 'elite' above their healthbar when scanned and looked at.

Attacks[]

In addition to all the benefits that all Elite enemies receive, Elite Stone Guardians have two additional enhancements:

  • Their Armor is greatly increased. All of their Heavy Armor plates have their Armor Health increased from 1500 to 3500.
  • Their Stab attacks have a bonus knockback, adding a 4 m/sec horizontal impulse and a 10 m/sec vertical impulse.

Trivia[]

  • Stone Guardians were introduced in the Season 05: Drilling Deeper update.
  • Upon first release, they would disable overclocks after attacking a dwarf. This was patched in the 05.02 update.
