We thought Morkite needed a nice, satisfying, wet squelch to fit in with the new Cerulean Cove biome. We’re very glad to announce Soft Morkite, which is exactly that!
— Mikkel (Mekill), Co-Founder and Game Director, Morkite

Soft Morkite is a common mineral that appears in every Mining Expedition mission and most Deep Dives in the Cerulean Cove biome, replacing standard morkite. It is functionally identical, but differs cosmetically; the soft morkite will pulsate in the wall, making soft squelching sounds, and will loudly splat when mined.

Appearance[]

Soft Morkite is a shiny, dark teal mineral. Similar to basic morkite, its faces glimmer in dark caverns, making them visible even without light. However, it will also move slightly.

Mined Soft Morkite chunks use the same model as Morkite.

Locations[]

Soft Morkite can be found only in the Cerulean Cove during relevant mission types. It seems to spawn slightly more frequently than the mineral Nitra Nitra.

Trivia[]

  • Soft Morkite’s addition was much celebrated by the community, who universally enjoyed the wet squelching sounds the mineral produces.
  • Due to player feedback, Soft Morkite’s sound effects were made even wetter and squelchier in Update 35: Furry Funtimes.
  • In an X (formerly Twitter) poll posted by Ghost Ship Games, Soft Morkite was voted the community’s favourite mineral, with 98.7% of the vote.
  • According to a developer livestream, Soft Morkite’s sound effects were recorded by “emptying a tub of Elmlea cream into the sound engineer’s hand and then making him slap a rotten pumpkin”. It supposedly took 10 years of attempts to create the sound.
