The Plasma Burster is an unlockable Throwable for the Engineer. It appears to be four plasma canisters held together in one group. Based on the color of the canisters and explosions, it is likely the same plasma technology used by the Breach Cutter.

The Plasma Burster is the Engineer's only grenade which can deal direct and immediate damage to enemies. When it hits the ground it will immediately detonate, creating four medium plasma explosions which detonate in sequence in a line, following the direction it was thrown in. The bursts cannot scale walls and will "bounce" off in the opposite direction if there are more bursts to be created when the line hits a wall.

Due to its unorthodox detonation, the Plasma Burster takes some practice to get good with. It may help to think of it as a miniature throwable version of the aforementioned Breach Cutter – used best against lines of enemies, rather than tightly clustered groups. All four plasma bursts combined to deal 240 damage, which is definitely quite a high number (though it's unlikely that any one enemy will take damage from all four bursts at once). The Engineer also carries six of them compared to the usual four, allowing them to be used more liberally.

The main issue with the Plasma Burster is a lack of consistency. One may struggle to get all four plasma explosions to deal acceptable damage as the grenade is highly dependent on enemy positioning. It also lacks any major specialty; the Engineer's other grenades both excel in area control whereas the Plasma Burster only deals damage. Regardless, this allows it to fit into a variety of character builds as the Engineer's sole damaging grenade.
