− | * Though the Bestiary states that the Trijaw is not much of a threat on it's own, ironically it is one of the most dangerous Mactera enemies to encounter with half the health of a [[Mactera Brundle|Brundle]] and capable of dealing 4x as much damage as a normal [[Mactera Spawn|Spawn]].<br> |

“ | The Mactera Tri-Jaw not only has trisected jaws but also shoots three explosive spines at once. The spines burst on contact affecting a small area. While not a great threat by itself, the Tri-Jaw can be quite deadly if you are otherwise occupied or get cornered. |
— Miner's Manual Description |
The Mactera Tri-Jaw is a hostile creature found on Hoxxes IV. It is a rarer member of the Mactera species which will not be seen as commonly as the Mactera Spawn. It will always be spotted flying when idle or in combat, and will be propelled by 4 sharp, curved wings along its back. It can be distinguished from its brethren by its tri-pronged mouth with 3 holes to deliver its attack. Like Glyphid Grunts, they can sometimes be found idly wondering the caves, but most of the time they are seen flying into action during swarms to fight the Dwarves. Generally, one will appear with a group of Mactera Spawn during a swarm.
The Mactera Tri-Jaw has just one attack called the Triple Barrage which consists of a short charge up time, where the Tri-Jaw will then proceed to fire out a burst of 3 acidic spines. They are fired with a short delay in between each spine and each shot has a slight spread, meaning there is a high chance a player will be hit. Added to this is the fact the barrage spines have a small explosive radius.
Despite having no extra/special abilities or attacks, the Tri-Jaw more than makes up for this with its ability to hit multiple times in a short period.
Because of the Tri-Jaw being a flying enemy, it has an advantage in being able to locate and shoot at Dwarves. It will have plenty of chances to attack if ignored, and so should be hit while it is preparing an attack.

Tips
- Freezing weapons such as the Cryo Cannon or the Cryo Grenade are recommended tools for an easy kill, as when a Mactera is frozen it will fall and shatter.
- Due to it having standard weaknesses and no dodge ability, any type of weapon can be reliably used to deal normal damage, including single shot weapons. Keep in mind its aerial position, potentially making it slightly harder to target for close range weapons.
- Players with extra mobility may be able to outrun/hide from its attack, and will be able to then get in return shots to take it down. Shooting at it while it charges an attack may also stun it.
