A close cousin of the Glyphid Bulk Detonator, but displaying an exceptionally thrilling mutation. It is every bit as lethal as its cousin, releasing the same devastating shockwaves and blowing up with a blast in the kiloton range, but - instead of glassing the surrounding environment on account of the tremendous heat released, a most peculiar chemical reaction occurs. The Glyphid Nitrus Detonator is a hostile Creature. It can spawn in any region of the planet, but its spawn is tied to level generation. It has a 3%* chance to spawn at the beginning of the mission and roams around the caves towards the Dwarves. Take note that only one will spawn. The Glyphid Nitrus Detonator is commonly referred to as a Nitrus or a Nitrus Detonator.
*Nitrus Detonators will not appear on missions until the Conquer Hoxxes IV Assignment has been completed.

Described by the Miner's Manual as a mutation of the original Bulk Detonator, the Nitrus is very similar in appearance and behavior. The biggest and most obvious difference is its whole body being covered in a layer of Nitra - this nitra serves as a type of armor which reduces Direct Damage by 60% and cannot be broken.

The Nitrus will also explode violently in the same manner as the Bulk Detonator does, but with a key difference. The 13 meter crater it leaves behind will be coated in a layer of solid Nitra, which can be mined and deposited. The amount of Nitra created depends on how much terrain is caught at the edge of its blast radius - catching the Bulk within a narrow tunnel will result in a larger amount of Nitra. Killing the Nitrus while it is near the back wall of a driller or pickaxe tunnel will yield a near-maximal amount of Nitra. If the Nitrus Detonator dies while it is frozen or burning, its death explosion will not produce a crater of Nitra.

Aside from these differences, the Nitrus Detonator behaves in the exact same way as a regular Bulk Detonator does, so any strategies that work for the Bulk can also tame a Nitrus quite effectively.

The Glyphid Nitrus Detonator possess 3 Bulbs, unlike regular weakpoints, they are breakable.
The Bulbs have a base health of 300 that scale with Hazard Level.

When it comes to dealing damage to break the weakpoint itself the weakpoint damage multipliers do not apply.
For example a weakpoint with 200 effective HP and a multiplier of 3x being shot for by a gun that deals 15 direct damage with a 30% weakpoint bonus will only take 15 damage.
Any Area Damage can damage and potentially break them, which can be detrimental since they don’t benefit from weakpoint damage.
The CRSPR Flamethrower and the Cryo Cannon can’t damage breakable weakpoints.

Elite Variant[]

The Glyphid Nitrus Detonator is the elite version of the regular Bulk Detonator. Like all Elite enemies, the Elite Glyphid Bulk Nitrus Detonator looks almost identical to its regular counterparts; being only distinguished by its aura of distinct vertical red lines with the words 'elite' above their healthbar when scanned and looked at.

Attacks[]

In addition to all the benefits that all Elite enemies receive (I.e. substantially increased health, attack damage and resistances), Elite Glyphid Nitrus Detonators have one additional enhancements:

  • The "Nitrous Final Blow" crater is decreased from 12m to 8m on the inside and the crater on the outside is extremely significantly increased from 8.5 to 30m.

Trivia[]

  • The Nitrus Detonator is tied with the Crassus Detonator for the highest amount of base health of any creature in the game, at 6000 HP. This can scale all the way up to 9000 HP on a Hazard 5 mission with four players.
  • When a Nitrus Detonator explodes, all terrain and platforms in a 6.5-meter radius are destroyed. All terrain and platforms between 6.5 meters and 6.75 meters away are turned to Nitra, leaving some portion of a 0.25-meter-thick spherical shell of Nitra.
  • The cluster bombs released by a Nitrus Detonator as it explodes will break any terrain they hit, as well as chunks of the Nitra crater. This Nitra is not destroyed and can be picked up by players.
  • The Nitrus Detonator was added in Season 05: Drilling Deeper as "A new threat which handsomely repays Miners for their time... and bullets."
  • It is suggested that Deep Rock Galactic uses Nitra in the manufacturing of explosives and munitions.
  • The typical yield from a Nitrus Detonator blast produces enough Nitra for 5 resupply pods, which more than repays for the ammunition spent defeating it and often negates the need for Nitra mining for the rest of the mission.
  • If BET-C is on the team, your luck of luring the Nitrus Detonator into the perfect spot to blow it up in reduces especially when you are playing on a lower difficulty level, because BET-C’s weapons are very powerful and strong, and they attack anything, even if it has unbreakable armor on, so be really careful if you hear that pulsating sound as well as the Nitrus Detonator roaring noises.
