The Glyphid Guard is a heavily armored mutation of the Grunt, its front limbs covered in dense layers of highly resistant chitin. While its attack is no more deadly than that of the common Grunt, the appearance of a Guard in a swarm should be handled with care - its less hardy brethren are smart enough to take cover behind it.
— Miner's Manual Description

Glyphid Grunt Guards are a stronger variant of the typical Glyphid Grunt. They have the same general body shape, but have a more prominent head structure, larger forelegs, and thicker armor. While normal Grunts simply charge their targets, Guards will attempt to protect themselves while attacking. Once targeted by a Dwarf, the Guard will use it's large forelegs covered in thick armor to cover up its mouth weakpoint. Although the armor is more resilient than Grunt armor and stops more damage, the armor may still be broken through, exposing the unarmored white flesh of the creature. The Guard must also drop it's defensive stance in order to attack.

Combat

Glyphid Guards will run straight towards players to engage in melee combat. When attacked, they will protect their mouth with their front legs, moving slower as a result but shielding themselves from frontal assaults. The legs will still prevent weakpoint shots from the front even if the armor is broken, but stunning the guard will drop their stance. They typically spawn in low numbers.

Guards have a high amount of armor and a substantial amount of health for their size, making them more difficult to kill compared to their brethren.
