A close cousin of the Glyphid Detonator, but displaying an exceptionally thrilling mutation. It is every bit as lethal as its cousin, releasing the same devastating shockwaves and blowing up with a blast in the kiloton range, but - instead of glassing the surrounding environment on account of the tremendous heat released, a most peculiar chemical reaction occurs. Everything caught in the blast radius of an exploding Crassus Detonator turns to gold. Incredible.
— Miner's Manual

The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is a hostile Creature. It can spawn in any region of the planet, but its spawn is tied to level generation. It has a 3%* chance to spawn at the beginning of the mission and roams around the caves towards the Dwarves. Take note that only one will spawn. The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is commonly referred to as a Crassus or a Crassus Detonator.
*Crassus Detonators will not appear on missions until the Conquer Hoxxes IV Assignment has been completed.

Described by the Miner's Manual as a mutation of the original Bulk Detonator, the Crassus is very similar in appearance and behavior. The biggest and most obvious difference is its whole body being covered in a layer of Gold - this gold serves as a type of armor which reduces Direct Damage by 60% and cannot be broken.

The Crassus will also explode violently in the same manner as the Bulk Detonator does, but with a key difference. The 13 meter crater it leaves behind will be coated in a layer of solid Gold, which can be mined and deposited. The amount of Gold created depends on how much terrain is caught at the edge of its blast radius - catching the Bulk within a narrow tunnel will result in a larger amount of Gold. Killing the Crassus while it is near the back wall of a driller or pickaxe tunnel will yield a near-maximal amount of gold: about 1230 (without Pots O' Gold). If the Crassus Detonator dies while it is frozen or burning, its death explosion will not produce a crater of gold.

Aside from these differences, the Crassus Detonator behaves in the exact same way as a regular Bulk Detonator does, so any strategies that work for the Bulk can also tame a Crassus quite effectively.

Breakable Weakpoints

The Glyphid Crassus Detonator possess 3 Bulbs, unlike regular weakpoints, they are breakable.
The Bulbs have a base health of 300 that scale with Hazard Level.

When it comes to dealing damage to break the weakpoint itself the weakpoint damage multipliers do not apply.
For example a weakpoint with 200 effective HP and a multiplier of 3x being shot for by a gun that deals 15 direct damage with a 30% weakpoint bonus will only take 15 damage.
Any Area Damage can damage and potentially break them, which can be detrimental since they don’t benefit from weakpoint damage.
The CRSPR Flamethrower and the Cryo Cannon can’t damage breakable weakpoints.

Attacks[]

  • Massive ~15 meter explosion upon death that releases several additional flying explosive globs
  • Explosive damage to terrain can leave behind layers of Gold when killed
  • Explodes with a non-damaging shock-wave, when killed while frozen
  • Stomps on nearby Dwarves, creating a very large blast that deals 100 fire damage
  • Digs through the dirt towards Dwarves using explosive slams

Elite Variant[]

The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is the elite version of the regular Bulk Detonator. Like all Elite enemies, the Elite Glyphid Bulk Crassus Detonator looks almost identical to its regular counterparts; being only distinguished by its aura of distinct vertical red lines with the words 'elite' above their healthbar when scanned and looked at.

Attacks[]

In addition to all the benefits that all Elite enemies receive (I.e. substantially increased health, attack damage and resistances), Elite Glyphid Crassus Detonators have one additional enhancements:

  • The "Golden Final Blow" crater is decreased from 12m to 8m on the inside and the crater on the outside is extremely significantly increased from 8.5 to 30m.

Trivia[]

  • The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is a reference to Roman general and politician Marcus Licinius Crassus, who was known as one of the wealthiest men of his time. According to legend, when his body was recovered by his enemies after a battle resulting in his death, they poured liquid gold into his mouth to taunt his wealth and greed.
  • The Crassus Detonator has the highest amount of base health of any creature in the game, at 6000 HP. This can scale all the way up to 9000 HP on a Hazard 5 mission with four players.
  • When a Crassus Detonator explodes, all terrain and platforms in a 6.5-meter radius are destroyed. All terrain and platforms between 6.5 meters and 6.75 meters away are turned to gold, leaving some portion of a 0.25-meter-thick spherical shell of gold.
  • Ignoring the effects of Pots O' Gold, the theoretical maximum gold yield of a Crassus Detonator explosion is 1271 gold, but this has yet to be experimentally confirmed. This is only achievable if the region intersecting the spherical shell described above is completely filled with terrain or engineer platforms. This is extremely difficult to achieve, as completely enclosing the Crassus will cause it to teleport.
  • The cluster bombs released by a Crassus Detonator as it explodes will break any terrain they hit, as well as chunks of the gold crater. This gold is not destroyed and can be picked up by players, but it will not benefit from Pots O' Gold.
  • In earlier builds of Deep Rock Galactic, there was a cut attribute to the Golden Final Blow. All properties were the same as the current iteration, with the only difference being that instead of the explosion being made of standard gold, a special version of the gold would be created instead, known as "Melted Gold". It would grant the same amounts of gold as its counterpart, except that it would take only a single pickaxe hit to mine and harvest. This special cut version of gold can be assumed to take only a single hit due to how large and oddly structured the golden explosion can be, making the mining process much easier and more streamlined. However, due to Melted Gold being its own unique resource, it was not affected by Pots O' Gold.
    • The Glyphid Crassus detonator is an extremely rare Glyphid Spawn. Opposite of the Glyphid Grunt and has a 1 in 26 (3.84%) chance to spawn in a mission when the mission is generated. Tied with the Error Cube which may be connected and related to the Error Helix as they both have similar properties. (Err://23¤Y%/) and err://019#T%/)
  • If BET-C is on the team, your luck of luring the Crassus Detonator into the perfect spot to blow it up in reduces especially when you are playing on a lower difficulty level, because BET-C’s weapons are very powerful and strong, and they attack anything, even if it has unbreakable armor on, so be really careful if you hear that pulsating sound as well as the Crassus Detonator roaring noises. Good luck!
