The Fester Flea is a nuisance at best, but is quickly becoming an actual problem for our operations. While relatively harmless, they have been known to procreate at exponential rates when allowed to, scouring cave systems entirely of organic material, and potentially clogging up costly mining equipment. Any employee that does not eliminate a Fester Flea on sight is liable to fines, reprimands, and worse.
— Miner's Manual Description

The Fester Flea is a passive Creature found on Hoxxes. It is only found in missions with the "Exterminate Fester Flea" Secondary Objective. The Dwarves can kill a set amount of Fester Fleas to be rewarded with a bonus payout of Credits and Experience upon mission completion.

Appearance

The Fester Flea is amongst the smallest creatures in the game with a light cyan body and white exoskeleton. It also features two beady glowing eyes, an uncommon trait for creatures on Hoxxes.

They have the ability to fly, and can zip around caves at high speeds. When moving, they emit a cyan-coloured trail (which can help to identify them). They also emit a small amount of bioluminescence, and will make chirping noises when flying.

Location & Gathering

Fester Fleas are completely passive creatures and have no form of attacks. They will fly around aimlessly, generally trying to avoid conflict. Sometimes they stick to walls and scuttle around. They can be quite difficult to hit when flying, as they move incredibly fast. When shot at or approached, they will panic and fly away at their top speeds, trying to get away from the Dwarves. Excessive noise and combat can also cause a Fester Flea to fly away.

While Fleas only have 80 HP, this amount allows them to survive being shot at and buys them time to fly away. They also have no weakspots to increase their damage taken (but at the same time, they have no protective armor). For this reason, alongside their erratic nature and high flying speeds, it is best to exterminate them with high-damage precision weapons.

The M1000 Classic is an excellent flyswatter, as its focus shots can instantly kill a Flea in a single shot. The Heavy Revolver is another decent choice, but it requires modifications to be able to one-shot a Flea. Sentry Guns are capable of tracking a Flea with perfect accuracy and can easily gun them down, but they might not be able to kill a Flea fast enough before it flies out of the Sentry's range.

The amount of Fleas needed to complete the Secondary Objective varies but there will always be more than are needed (though killing extra Fleas will not reward anything more than a trifling XP bonus in the single digits). Once the required amount of Fester Fleas are killed, Mission Control will announce the completion of the Secondary Objective.
