“ | R&D reports sightings of these giant structures above our new Rival's data vaults, hidden behind a giant impenetrable shield. The few miners who have returned alive report that the structure is the Facility Caretaker, an extremely dangerous machine that furiously protects the valuable data hidden underneath it. Bring your strongest arsenal for this beast! |
— Miner's Manual Description |
The Caretaker is a sentient construct, which protects a data rack, stealing it is the main objective in Industrial Sabotage.
The Caretaker appears to be a giant, floating upside down pyramid. Along its 4 corners on the top are panels that cover its shielded cores. The 4 sides house its covered eyes. It will lie in a dormant state until its shielding is brought down.
Combat[]
The Caretaker has a health bar split into 3 sections, and these constitute the separate phases of the fight. Upon activation beginning the first phase, it will reveal 4 shielded cores which must be destroyed in order to deal damage to the machine itself. The Caretaker will slowly rotate during this stage, and destroying one of the four shields will cause it to spin faster. During this stage, clusters of Patrol Bots will spawn to help fight off the Dwarves. Robotic Appendages will be summoned along the edges of the Caretaker's platform (but can also be spawned anywhere). Attempting to stand on the platform under the Caretaker will inflict electrical damage. Massive plasma barrier waves like the plasma forcefields used by Repulsion Turrets also have a chance to be summoned in waves from the Caretaker, and will damage and push back players on contact while also blocking any projectiles.
Once the weak points are destroyed, the Robotic Appendages will redeploy along with more Patrol Bot summons, and one of the side eyes will open up and cause the Caretaker to be vulnerable to damage in that spot. The open eye may shut after enough damage is dealt, and another may open. This process will repeat until the first segment of the health bar has been depleted.
The second phase will begin with the same 4 shielded cores and spinning behavior. Once they are brought down the Caretaker will again open an eye for damage, albeit with the chance of a new attack; it may either spawn several Sniper Turrets on the ceiling above it or summon phase bombs at players. Phase bombs will appear on players hovering above the ground for a second emitting a red light, before they are crashed on the ground in a large explosion.
Upon fighting through the third phase of the Caretaker, it will emit audible groaning and creaking sounds, while being enveloped by many small explosions. All rival tech spawns from the fight will be incinerated, while the boss itself crashes onto its side on the platform. After a couple seconds it will explode, launching any dwarfs on it or nearby a far distance. The platform that it hovers above will open and a giant vault door will move up to the side, revealing the data rack holding case. Upon taking it and attaching it onto the M.U.L.E, the primary mission objective will be completed.

Robotic Appendage[]
The Robotic Appendage is a special rival tech construct that can only be spawned by the Caretaker. It has the ability to fire several projectiles at dwarves like the Burst Turret while moving its "head" around to dodge return fire. It can also occasionally very quickly lunge and embed itself in the terrain in an attempt to attack players. Robotic Appendages are generally spawned on the 4 raised cylinders of the Caretaker's platform, but can be spawned anywhere.

Trivia[]
- The batteries from the force field generator, which protects the Caretaker, can be picked up and damaged to create a small and weak explosion.
- The large orange bubble shield it is guarded by before the generators are destroyed can not be stood on, as it will damage and bounce players off.
