“ | The Boinging Elf is, as R&D theorises at least, what happens when a Loot Elf somehow manages to unfortunately survive long enough to reach the final stage in its natural life cycle. Much larger and with a thicker “shell”, exterminating this creature will spew not only a large quantity of local minerals, but also 2-5 Loot Elf offspring into the vicinity, who will be launched out at a high velocity and proceed to bounce around the cave like pinballs. |
— Miner's Manual Description |
The Boinging Elf is a rare, passive Creature on Hoxxes. It can be found in every region of the planet. Similar to the Loot Elf, it is a large, spherically-inflated latex creature which is often found bouncing around caves, and uncontrollably float through the air due to their neutral buoyancy within the atmosphere of Hoxxes. It can be identified at a distance by the loud squeaks and deep, muffled moans echoing throughout the cave. Upon death, it will explode, pushing away any physics objects or dwarves nearby and launching 2-5 Loot Elves at a high velocity from within, and spewing a large quantity of Gold, Nitra, Sugmite, Blue Ice, Red Sugar, and three randomly selected local crafting minerals (such as Enor Pearl, Ligmite and Croppa) everywhere nearby.
Upon cave generation, every Loot Elf spawned in a cave has a 5% (1 in 20) chance of being replaced with a Boinging Elf. This chance becomes 30% in the Fungus Bogs. Boinging Elves are generated as part of the seed and cannot respawn once killed.
The Boinging Elf, much like the loot elf, has no means of attack or self defence. However, upon killing a Boinging Elf, the Loot Elves ejected from within will carry so much velocity they can pose a hazard to dwarves near cliff edges if they hit and knock them.
The Boinging Elf will carry a large quantity of minerals within their body, similar to a Huuli Hoarder. Any minerals they are inflated with are added to their internal "total", and will be released upon their death; unlike the Loot Elf, the minerals are solid chunks, and will not rapidly crystalising into mineable deposits on nearby surfaces. When a Boinging Elf dies, it wobbles for a second and then suddenly explodes with an incredibly loud “bang”. The death explosion deals a negligible amount of damage, but applies a large amount of force to any dwarves nearby and can pose a fall damage hazard if a dwarf is knocked a large distance.
Unlike the Loot Elf, the Boinging Elf cannot be petted. However, attempting to do so will prompt a dwarf to say a disgusted/empathetic voiceline towards the creature.
The Boinging Elf is not affected by the perk It's an Elf Thing, or the Spaghetti at the Space Rig Cantine. However, the loot elves ejected from the dead Boinging Elf will be.

- The Boinging Elf has no armor to its name, and its health pool remains at exactly 2000 HP across all Hazard Levels in the game.
Trivia[]
- Boinging Elves were added in Season 6: Corporate Expansion.
- The muffled moaning noises the Boinging Elf produces are from an unknown source. When asked about how the sounds were recorded on a developer livestream, they replied with “It’s a secret”.
- The Boinging Elf’s local crafting mineral drops are completely random, and not affected by the biome it is in. Three crafting minerals are selected at random to drop, with the exception of Sugmite, which will always drop in addition to the random three regardless.
